I made new HD loaders since there are so many floating around the net & you just dont know what you are getting. So i decided i would take an original & make one for a different patch. I edited the original splash & main screens to reflect on the patch it has.

Version 0.7e
crazyc has come up with a patch to fix Shadow of the Colossus: hdlgetstat.ips (http://sksapps.com/hd/hdlgetstat.zip)
It adds a very half assed implementation of getstat for the cdrom device, just enough to get 'uint size' into the right spot in the stat structure. Getstat was a stub before so I doubt any breakage. TOS .4 must have this fix so look at it's compatibilty change from .3 for games that may start working, but it probably has other fixes of course.

The patch depends on the core decryption. I created it with an otherwise unpatched hdloader.

then shortly after another patch to fix Super Monkey Ball: hdlfileops.ips (http://sksapps.com/hd/hdlfileops.rar)
Updated: (04-01-07) hdlfileops2.ips (http://sksapps.com/hd/hdlfileops2.zip) This makes the GOW2 patch compatable with these games fixed with this patch
Here's a new patch that superscedes the last one. It's got a little bonus.
specifically it adds dopen and dread which fixes Super Monkey Ball.
You can apply these with lips100.zip (http://sksapps.com/hd/lips100.zip) or IPSWin20.zip (http://sksapps.com/hd/IPSWin20.zip)

Then lonwern wrote "Unofficial HDLPatch 0.7e" patcher app (DOS): uhdlpatch_0.7e.rar (http://sksapps.com/hd/uhdlpatch_0.7e.rar) and the Source files (http://sksapps.com/hd/uhdlpatch_0.7e_source.rar)
- Swap X/O buttons
- Change Transfers mode
- Suikoden V patch by Crazyc added to the compatibility menu
- Getstat/fileops patch by Crazyc added to the compatibility menu (Enabled in default)

Version 0.8b
HDLpatch_0.8b:
- Just a fix of minor errors
v.08b fixes a bug with HDL not installing to HDDs over 128GB.

For people who seem to have problems with HDLoader not launching games (after carefully patching it to the specifications of their PS2 model) open the patched, unpacked ELF, and change at offset 0x1070 from 023A040C to 00000000. That's the only CD-related piece of code that is executed when HDLoader starts (the other being void when patching with /N). Other than that, I dunno...

The version 0.8b handles the following operations:

- No disc seek while loading (stops freezing at splash screen on V9 and later models).
- Compatibility menu facelift with new built-in modes (with some improvements).
- V12/13 PSTwo support (for Automan's interface). These consoles are not reliable for installing with HDL, recommend using Winhiip
- Stop CDVD-drive motor after loading (use ONLY when booting from a disc on V9 and later models).
- Bigger game list (fit more titles on screen).
- Force HDLoader UI into NTSC-mode on PAL machines (fullscreen image).
- LBA 48bit patch (allows full use of HDDs up to 2 terabytes).
- Auto idle off fix to stop HDD from shutting down while left idling.
- MDMA/UDMA-mode selector through user configurable button layout while HDLoader starts.
- Swap X/O buttons for japanese style controls.
- Disable all features from the UI except playing games.
- Position screen.
- Force default language.
- Change graphics (splash, main & the button image).
- Change font.
- Change colors and texts from a separate textfiles.
- Extract images, font data, colors & texts from HDLoader.

Most (if not all) of the patches can be installed to already trimmed versions of HDLoader but to be safe always use a clean file to begin with if possible.

Also this will propably be the last HDLPatch version from me (unless there are some serious fuckups). Need to spend time for other lesser 10110010 things as well.

I also decided to add the pure clean unpacked protected HDLoader taken from the original retail disc. It can be patched just like the cracked "free" version floating around. If someone still cares about the issue feel free to remove it from the list of files, as I don't care anymore if it violates a law or another in a country somewhere I don't even care. Nice! a virgin copy! Thanx Zer0-X !!

God of War 2 patch
CrazyC has released another great fix

hdloaderopen.ips (http://www.sksapps.com/jnabk/hdloaderopen.ips.gz)

Instructions:
grab a Virgin HDL (http://www.sksapps.com/hd/Clean_HDLoader.zip) (unpacked)
grab the HDL Patcher GUI (http://www.sksapps.com/hd/hdlgui8b_r2e.rar)
make a new HDLv0.8b and dont pack it yet
grab lips100.zip (http://sksapps.com/hd/lips100.zip) or IPSWin20.zip (http://sksapps.com/hd/IPSWin20.zip) and apply the hdloaderopen.ips to the unpacked HDLv0.8b
now you can pack it if you want it for MC, heres a packer (http://www.sksapps.com/mis/ps2-packer-1.4.zip).

What does this patch do?
It patches open to force flags to O_RDONLY. The game also requires the sceCdSC patch (part of the dual layer patch in hdlpatch). Try this patch with other games that have SMPD.IRXWhat games might have this file in them?
Most likely, only Sony first and second party games will have this file.

As usual, i pre-made one:
* download at top of post* (packed ELF only)

What do UDMA and MDMA patches do? and what do the acronyms stand for? It has something to do with how fast HDL reads the HD right??

JNABK
04-30-2006, 02:56 PM
MDMA slows hdd access (close to DVD speed)
UDMA is a faster HDD access

ATA DMA Modes:

DMA Modus : Cycle Time - Transferrate - Revision

Single Word Mode 0 (SDMA-0): 960ns- 2,1 MB/s- ATA

Single Word Mode 1 (SDMA-1): 480ns- 4,2 MB/s- ATA

Single Word Mode 2 (SDMA-2): 240ns- 8,3 MB/s- ATA

Multiword Mode 0 (MDMA-0): 480ns- 4,2 MB/s- ATA

Multiword Mode 1 (MDMA-1): 150ns- 13,3 MB/s- ATA-2

Multiword Mode 2 (MDMA-2): 120ns- 16,6 MB/s- ATA-2

Ultra-DMA Mode 0 (UDMA-0): 240ns- 16,6 MB/s- ATA-4

Ultra-DMA Mode 1 (UDMA-1): 160ns- 25,0 MB/s- ATA-4

Ultra-DMA Mode 2 (UDMA-2): 120ns- 33,3 MB/s- ATA-4

Ultra-DMA Mode 3 (UDMA-3): 90ns- 44,4 MB/s- ATA-5

Ultra-DMA Mode 4 (UDMA-4): 60ns- 66,7 MB/s- ATA-5

Ultra-DMA Mode 5 (UDMA-5): 40ns- 100 MB/s- ATA-6

How often is the MDMA/UDMA patches used?? The only game I can think of that would use this patch is GUN where you have to slow down the HD. Are there actually quite a few games that need these patches??

Those of you new to rapidshare, scroll down the page, select free category & a new page opens, midway on that page is a time counting down till d/l is ready, wait till d/l link appears.

Each file is a 50MB d/l & will expand to 3.36GB
An ISO, .bin/.cue along with a ReadMe is included.

I dont have a mod, so i dont know if it loads differently than cogswap. Thats what I used to test the disc for loading.
I burned the disc (sony CD-R 700MB) using Nero 6 Ultra edition. I dont use Alchohol 120%, so i dont know its settings.

Has any of the above been tested with Swap Magic 3.0? I reason I ask is because I can't get a working version of HDLoader on a DVD to save my life (I'm really wanting to use the one that fixes Shadow of Colossus). I've wasted so many DVD's trying it different ways. And since I found the ELF version of Code Breaker 9.2, this is needed in order to use cheats on games on my hard drive. I do have a work around though. I'm using the PAL version of HDAdvance 3.0. I found it odd that it worked though being that it's the PAL version and I use NTSC. Any ideas on how to HDLoader to burn to a DVD properly to a DVD or is it my version of SM? Thanks.

ubergeek42
05-20-2006, 09:15 AM
Maybe try using one of the cd versions oh hdloader? You should have 2 swapmagic disks, one for booting DVD's and one for booting CD's. Make sure you are using the correct one.
I assume you know how to load an elf file, so you could just download the HDloader elf and run that, it works the same as being on a disk.

RobMan
05-20-2006, 09:27 AM
Thanks for the reply. I should have been a little more detailed. I've tried both the CD and DVD versions and they didn't work. I get the red border. I've had this issue for every DVD ISO I've found. Even when building it myself. That's why I think its my Swap Magic verion. I've also got the ELF loaded on the MC and that works fine. My thing is that I need a DVD version of HDLoader so I can use it with Code Breaker 9.2. See, when I load CB off the MC, I select the codes, and when it says to insert disc, I eject and put in my DVD version of Swap Magic. Then (as of right now) once that loads I use the flip top to put in my DVD version of HDAdvance. That way the cheats work with the games on the hard drive. The thing I'm trying to accomplish is getting the latest versions of HDLoader that's been posted on a DVD so I can get Shadow of Colossus to work from the hard drive with cheats. Make sense?

ubergeek42
05-20-2006, 09:33 AM
yes, there are other ways though. first i need to know how you are loading the elf file from the memory card. if you are using the independence exploit(which i assume you are)
then you don't need to burn a cd.

ok basically what you do is this. start codebreaker, then when it wants the game disk, put in a ps2 game and hit start. when the screen goes black hit eject, and you should be taken back to the ps2 browser. from here insert your ps1 trigger disk and load up your exploit again. then start hdloader and you should have your codes going.

(this may be wrong, or for some other cheat device; but its worth a try)

otherwise; are there any burned cds that load with swapmagic? you might try making a cd that loads ulaunch, and then use that to load hdloader elf from the mem card, or the cd, if you include it when you burn it.

hope that helps.

RobMan
05-20-2006, 09:39 AM
Wow... I didn't know you could do that. Let me try that real quick and I'll post back and let you now if it works. Thanks.

As far as how I'm loading the elf file, yes, I'm using the independence exploit.

helo, i have got a v12 ps2 with a matrix infinty (homebrew), and have just had a hd-combo fitted aswell, thus allowing me to put in a maxtor 40BG HDD

i am a bit new to ps2 technical stuff but have read a lot if posts but none have really matched my situation,

q1-whars the difference between a patched or un-patched hdloader.elf for putting on the memory card

q2- am i correct in thinking the hdloader v0.7c is the best .elf (i.e- most reliable and stable ) ??

q3- is there any hdloader v0.7c .elfs that are simply `burn ready`, and once it goes onto the memcard i assume it acts like a smaller version of the hd loader on a cd, and would just run off the mem card then see the new hdd and ask to formatt it etc, etc??

any help on this will be great..........Thanks

a1) patched hdloader contains fixes for some games, increases compatibility with games, and adds support for hard drives over 128gig.

a2) hdloader 0.7c used to be the best, but a recent patch makes 0.7e the best for compatibility(its in the first post of the thread)

a3) hdloader doesn't install itself automatically to the memory card, you would need a program such as launchelf to do that. there are ready to burn cd versions in the first post along with the standalone program(ps2 uses elf files instead of exe file, think of them as basically the same though)

if your modchip supports DEV booting, you can rename the hdloader.elf file to BOOT.ELF and copy it into mc0:/BOOT/ using ulaunchelf or something like that.

I can only suggest that you take the files from the CD, add your own dummy files & make a DVD........i cant explain why it only "half" works.

I patched it:
/C- new compatability options
/L -48bit patch
/M - used default MDMA/UDMA settings
/A -Disables the auto shutdown from HDLoader so the HDD doesn't stop when
left unused for extended perioids of time.

I left it unpacked as well, so CD users can use it too. MC users need to pack it before X-fering to the MC. Works as is for USB thumbdrives.

1. PS2 Slim SPCH-75004

2. UBS Hard Disc Enclosure

3. Seagate 80 GB 7200 rpm HDD (Checked in ps2hdd Compatibility list its ok)

Work that I have done.

1. Initialized HDD from My Computer Management, format in NTFS format

2. Then formatted by USBExteme and copied two Games ( Fifa 2006 Germany, Devil May Cry 2).

3. Booted PS2 with Swapmagic 3.6 with USBadvance elf.

4. Now I can see files in HDD but when I press (X) to start I have Just Black Screen.
Until I reboot PS2.

5. I thought that may be it?s because of usbadvance less compatibility with games as
mentioned on different forums so I try to install HDloader.

6. Now again booting with Swapmagic with Hdloader elf (I have tried different elf
versions) but every time HDloader gives me Hardware error HDD not found.

I have spent my lot of money & time on this project So plz help me to accomplish my goal.

Dear JNBK I think now I have explained all things in detail so plz now tell me what to do. And If I have skipped anything do let me know I will provide it.

Thanks

I'm sorry that you are having problems with USBextreme. Since you are using an external USB HDD enclosure, then let us know which brand and model. Not all will work with USBextreme.

HDLoader or HDL do not work with USB enclosures at all.

If you do need to use USBextreme, and haven't found your answer already you may want to visit ps2hd.com to make sure you are using a compatible external enclosure, and if NTFS is the correct formatting, and if the game works with USBextreme or not.

Ok, i see now. Most likely the Games you tried to play from USB HDD are incompatable, but you cant use a different app like HDLoader or HDAdvance with the USB HDD. They only work with a IDE HDD, this is why you get the "cant find hdd " error message.
Try this site for USB Compatability games (http://jaydium.servehttp.com/usbextreme/gamelist.php)
You seem to have done everything correctly before trying HDLoader.

Not sure what your asking, but im guessing you mean you want to view the files on the HDD?

uLaunchelf is a PS2 app that is able to view and manage the files on the HDD,MC and a USB device.

Yes, I use uLaunchELF, but not view files that saved HDLoader :(

ubergeek42
10-15-2006, 12:27 PM
i think you misunderstand how hdloader stores the games. they are not stored as viewable files on the hard drive, but instead each game gets its own partition, which basically contains a mirror image of a games cd/dvd.

If you are talking about viewing the games with the hard drive plugged into the computer, there is a program called winhiip that does that.

but just like JNABK, i don't fully understand what you are asking either.

This is the default button layout for HDLoader's DMA-selector. Which if you got it from here thats what you will get. You wont "see" a difference, but the hd may read the game faster

m0=up
m1=triangle
m2=left
u0=right
u1=square
u2=circle
u3=down

ubergeek42
10-22-2006, 09:40 AM
actually, at the game selection screen it will say like u1 or u2 or m1 etc above the little menu on the right hand side.

but ingame..you most likely won't notice any differences.

ok, thanks for the reply... so can i know what is the different from all these

m0=up
m1=triangle
m2=left
u0=right
u1=square
u2=circle
u3=down

i know of Tales of the Abyss we must activated m0 and mode1, btw how we turn on mode 1? usually in other hd, i just press "select" in this version hd i download here, i pressed select and nothing happen, thanks for ur help guys

JNABK
10-22-2006, 08:42 PM
when you press select, a mode menu should appear. There are no more Mode1, Mode2, etc. Instead, theres the list of what each mode does. First on the list is the old mode1, second is mode2, and so on.

--------------

m0=up
m1=triangle
m2=left
u0=right
u1=square
u2=circle
u3=down

Those are different modes for the HDD speed. You need to press the button for the mode you want when the splash screen is loading for HDL to activate one of those modes. As ubergeek mentioned, a successful activation will show the mode selected in the Main game menu , above the toolbar menu.

Hey
Alright, I'm not going to try to hide this
I'm a noob with PS2 work-arounds.
I use HDLoader because I'm too nervous to try soldering my PS2.
Anyways, I'd like to play Shadow of the Colossus, and I found (through Google) that you need to patch HDLoader (obviously, with this patch)

Now, how do I install this?
Do I /have/ to either use a modchip or a bootdisk (like SwapMagic?)
Or is there another way to do this?

Thanks!

Im guessing your using a bought CD of HD Loader, right? And you dont have the exploit installed to your MC, right?

Heres the easiest way:
Download HDLoader 8B-ELF (http://www.sksapps.com/hd/HDL_8B_ELF.rar)

Now go to this page (http://sksapps.info/forums/viewtopic.php?t=489) and download the Utility app there and follow the step-by-step to create an exploit for your MC. You want to unzip the HDLoader you downloaded and include it into the exploit when it asks for any elfs you want added.

You will then need winhiip (http://www.sksapps.com/hd/WinHIIP_V1.7.6.rar) to install the created .bin/cue exploit file. Its easy to use, just connect your hdd from the ps2 into your PC and run the winhiip.exe

Then you put the hdd back in the ps2, and run the HDLOader disc and 'play' the exploit file you installed. This will install the exploit to your MC with the updated HDLoader 8B.

Then you restart the ps2 with the PSX game you used to make the TITLE.DB in the Exploit Utility steps. This will load the BOOT.ELF, which will be uLaunchelf. You can find a tutorial for Launchelf in the tutorials page (http://www.sksapps.com/index.php?page=tutorials.html).

First, thank you for your prompt reply.
However, I can't get PS2 Exploit Utility to work. It keeps saying that the beta's expired, and to download the latest version from the website - But the version I'm using, I downloaded straight from their website!
I don't know what I could possibly be doing wrong. Any suggestions?

JNABK
11-15-2006, 02:05 PM
The author of the app gave up on it, so he hasnt removed the "beta" from it. McBeth wrote a tutorial to help get past that, on the page you got the app from theres a tut on errors, look thru that and see if it helps. If not, maybe McBeth will reply. I havent had any problems running it, so i couldnt help ya on that.

I dont remember if the HDL v0.8b was patched with the "stop spin" option, so im guessing it wasnt, based on your post.
What you will need to do is create your own patched version with this option enabled in the Patch GUI i the first post of this thread. There are tutorials to show what that option is.

I just got a copy i ordered last week, as ive been curious to know if it is HDLv0.8b or something different. They advertised it having network support, so i had to know what it was.
After opening the package i found a disc with a plain light blue label and a Sony 8MB MC. I hadnt expected a MC, so i looked at the disc case and on the back is instructions:
HDLOADER 3.8B
Insert memory card into slot 1 and the DVD into the tray.

When menu appears:

Press O to run HDLoader 3.8B
Press [] (square) for Server (load games over the network)
Press X to run MyPS2

I will run thru everything a little later and report my review and make the files available too. Since all the apps they are using are free anyway, its not a copyright issue.

Stay tuned.........

JNABK
01-17-2007, 04:43 PM
Ok, its not what i thought it was going to be, its just an exploited MC and a PSX game disc with a label glued over it. :-D

The PSX game is Martian Gothic: Unification
Heres whats on the MC:
Apps
Launchelf v3.41 (boot elf)
HDL v0.8b elf (with 3.8b added to the splash screen)
HDL_svr elf
McFormat elf (MC Killer)
MyPS2 elf
Files
config.dat
history
icon.sys
ipconfig.dat
launchelf.cnf
samba.xml
system.cnf
title.db
usbd.irx

This is what i been doing for friends! They just pay for the MC and the game.
Its not unreasonable , price wise.
They charge $39.95 + shipping ($13.95 for me)
a MC costs $15-$20 (avarage)
a PSX game costs $10-$15 (average)

Oh well, now i got another MC and a new PSX game, at least its one i didnt have, maybe ill check it out. lol :hehe:

Ok, so theres no files to post, as we have them all available already.
So inconclusion, its not a bad idea for noobs who are willing to pay for an exploit ready to go. At least this is update-able!! All you need is a USB stick.

Downside:
Oh, and they put the HDL_srvr elf to use HDL_Dumb, but didnt mention that you need to download the PC side GUI for it to work!

MyPS2 1.2 also didnt work, "loading GUI string Table....Failed"

*edit* ok, myps2 dont work because they pre-configured the network settings:
IP Address: 192.168.0.10
GW Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnetmask: 225.225.225.0
DNS Address: 195.50.140.114
Noobs cant change this!

Also theres a bunch of other files that are supposed to be included, if they read the ReadMe that came with it they would have known, so they wasted their time adding this.............they shoulda just used uLaunchelf v4.08....

Bootlegninja

Well at the least, it can offer people who can not seem to get the exploit working on their system an option to get it with hdl. Although they should have advertised it all as an exploited mc with trigger disc and apps. I can honestly see that people will complain about their wording soon. %-)

RobMan
01-17-2007, 07:26 PM
Thanks for the update JNABK. I had a funny feeling that it was just a "packaged exploit" when you mentioned it came with a plain light blue label on the disc and especially the 8mb MC. I guess it's cool for noobs who don't feel like reading and learning it for themselves but on the other hand, I can see some pissed off people too. Especially those who expected something diferent. Thanks again man.

JNABK

I think im going to be doing the same, but im not advertising as HDLoader, since its banned from sale, i'll "give" it for free, but i'll sell MCs and PSX games as a package with a free exploit.

LOL, its all in how you market it, as to if its legal.....Ill even throw in a disc with the PC apps and a ReadMe on using it.

I think you probably answered your own question. HDL itself is free. When you buy the retail version, you are paying for the convenience of a bootable disc.

JNABK
02-04-2007, 10:23 AM
They arent selling HDLoader v0.8b on a retail disc , but as an exploit instead. Read my review above!

But im sure the older HDLoader version is still available on a retail disc. There is no need to buy one, unless its become the cheapest way to get an exploit to your MC.

ucablca
02-04-2007, 11:00 AM
Thanks for the replies.

So the retail version they're selling is actually just an exploit on a MC with a PS1 game?

What if I'd like to just do the exploit on my own? Right now all I have is a network adapter, an HDD, and a memory card and lots of files that are useless to me unless I have some kind of mod, swap, or hdloader device, correct? It seems like in order to do the exploit, I'd have to buy something anyhow, like a USB flash drive. I'm just trying to explore all of the options available. I suppose I'm just wondering what you all would suggest I do with the current setup I have.

For instance, if I buy the older retail disc (which is far cheaper) would I be able to upgrade to 8b once I put the exploit on my MC? Would that be the best route? Thanks for your time.

JNABK
02-04-2007, 11:35 AM
Yes, you will need to purchase something, as the normal ps2 devices wont install an exploit.

A modchip
a retail cheat disc for PS2 with usb support
a retail HDLoader/HDAdvance disc
a pre-made exploit with MC & PSX disx
A retail Swap disc (swap magic)
a friend with any of the above

These are the only ways to initially get an exploit on your MC (non slim ps2)

CrazyC has released another great fix

hdloaderopen.ips (http://www.sksapps.com/jnabk/hdloaderopen.ips.gz)

Instructions:
grab a Virgin HDL (http://www.sksapps.com/hd/Clean_HDLoader.zip) (unpacked)
grab the HDL Patcher GUI (http://www.sksapps.com/hd/hdlgui8b_r2e.rar)
make a new HDLv0.8b and dont pack it yet
grab lips100.zip (http://sksapps.com/hd/lips100.zip) or IPSWin20.zip (http://sksapps.com/hd/IPSWin20.zip) and apply the hdloaderopen.ips to the unpacked HDLv0.8b
now you can pack it if you want it for MC, and go use it.

I still cannot get the GOW2 demo to work. I have HDAdvance 3.0, it boots up fine, I then select HDL0.8bGoW2 from the game list, HDL loads fine but when I try to run GOW2 I get the black screen of death.

Where is that link? Well, if you are referring to the multi.app image:

the "standard hdl" entry referes to HDL 0.8b fully pathced (by slicer74)

the GoWII IPS entry boots the IPS patched, as working reported GoWII loader.

I know in 0.7c you could add the main and splash pages...

2) Text patching?
3) Font patching?
4) Color patching?

Thanks

JNABK

When you download skins, have you seen the extra files, colors.txt,font.bmp,button.bmp,etc These are things that change in the way HDLoader displays, not just the splash and main images.

1) Patch button image? [button.tga/button.bmp]<- this is the button you press to confirm a command (install/rename/delete,etc)
2) Text patching? [ text_new_options.txt] You can use this to change the language displayed or just change words you see in the menu's
3) Font patching? [font.DAT / font.bmp] You can change the font displayed
4) Color patching? [colors.txt] this changes the colors displayed and the background/border for the menu's

If you d/l a skin package with any of these, you mark the box and add the file as you do the main and splash images.

Thanks. I understand how to add them to the patch in the HDL Patcher GUI 0.8b.

But how do you create a font.bmp/font.dat and edit the colors.txt?

Also what exactly does the button.tga do?

I'm just wondering, in case I want to customize and create my own skin package. I've created the main and splash pages using a template i found, but am just wondering how to do these last few customizable steps.

Thanks.

Hi there, i used your great looking NABK HDLoader 8B-GOW2 (packed ELF only)

I boot my playstation2 with matrix infinity, i choose your hd loader, i see the first screen with the HDLOADER and god of war2 drawing that you made but nothing else happens, it freezes just there on that screen.

My ps2 has a broken dvd drive, so i cannot read any dvd or cd at all.it has matrix infinity, im using a 160gig hitachi, formated with 48bit and to accept patched hdloaders.

crazyc's fix for GTA:Liberty City Stories was fixed with an IPS patch, well this patch also fixes Vice City Stories, but the new GOW2 patch is also an IPS patch and they are not compatable together, so you cant use the same HDL version for both, until crazyc figures out how to and gives an update to a new HDL version.

Just a slight problem. I decided to make a dl iso of GOW2 and back it up to the HDD. The problem is DVD decrypter receives a disc read error at around 48% which is supposedly the second layer. Does anyone know why this is?

ubergeek42
04-09-2007, 12:51 PM
I would blame it on your dvd drive, do you have another you can use/has it ever read dual layered disks before?

AMD
04-09-2007, 01:58 PM
Well I've written 2 DL discs before and have read dvd movies and 1 pc game before perfectly fine. Also I've backed up GOW2 already on to dual layer media. I deleted the iso to save space.

And I gave GOW2 to my brother who lives about 10 minutes away and was trying to back up the non-retail disc. Do I have to use the retail disc to make an iso of or shouldn't the back up work fine. I probably should've mentioned this before.

Thanks for the reply.

EDIT: no i don't have another unless I ask my friend to let me use his laptop.

JNABK
06-22-2007, 02:45 PM
these are the only modes that were incorporated into HDL:
Multiword Mode 0 (MDMA-0): 480ns- 4,2 MB/s- ATA

Multiword Mode 1 (MDMA-1): 150ns- 13,3 MB/s- ATA-2

Multiword Mode 2 (MDMA-2): 120ns- 16,6 MB/s- ATA-2

Ultra-DMA Mode 0 (UDMA-0): 240ns- 16,6 MB/s- ATA-4

Ultra-DMA Mode 1 (UDMA-1): 160ns- 25,0 MB/s- ATA-4

Ultra-DMA Mode 2 (UDMA-2): 120ns- 33,3 MB/s- ATA-4

Ultra-DMA Mode 3 (UDMA-3): 90ns- 44,4 MB/s- ATA-5 The others either arent compatable with the PS2 or they arent necessary enough to be included by the author.

JNABK

Because there were many patches added to HDL and a lot of people were creating all these patched versions and distributing them. As more patches were added, it became more complicated to find one that had the patches perfect for your specific needs.

Im sure if you d/l'ed every version of HDL available with all different combinations of the patches, you will find that any HDA can be matched among 1 of those versions.

HDA wasnt distributed with as many different varieties of patches.

Hello Everyone,

Need your help. This sticky was very informative. I think I'm doing things right, and just need to get your opinion.

I downloaded: http://www.sksapps.com/hd/HDLv07e_CD.rar

because I want to back-up all of my Karaoke Rev discs, and that seems to be the one that is patched to work with these titles.

I burned a CD using Nero. I tried both the CUE file(only allows CD), and also the ISO files(can select CD or DVD). When I burned the CD, my PS2 tries to load it, then comes up with the "Please insert a Playstation2 compatible disc" error message.

Is there a step that I am missing?

Thanx

~ice

Bootlegninja
01-02-2008, 02:50 PM
Well, the ps2 can't read burned data discs out of the box. what would be more efficient for you would be to install the memory card exploit and then you would be able to launch HDL 0.8b from any attached media.

To install the exploit, you best bet would be to use a cheat disc such as AR Max, or codebreaker so long as it can transfer a gamesave from your pc to ps2 via usb stick. Check the tutorials section for info on how to do that.

Hi,
re: elf files such as HDLoader 8B -CD (http://www.sksapps.com/hd/HDL_8B_CD.rar)- BIN/CUE/ISO.

Is a .pbt file required when using a crystal chip?

If yes, the problem becomes more complex.

The cc_software_2x_mega_pack_rls3 includes a file named HDloader.
Inside that file is an APPINFO.PBT file. At the bottom of the
APPINFO.PBT file it has

:RUN
LOADEXEC "PBAT" "$BM.SCRIPTS$/LOADEXEC.PBT" "$PWD$/HDLOADER.ELF"
EXIT "0"

Inside the file HDL_GOW2_JNABK exists a file called HDL_GOW2_JNABK.ELF.
So if one wants to load HDL_GOW2_JNABK.ELF, does one change the name of HDL_GOW2_JNABK.ELF to HDLOADER.ELF. Place that elf file and the pbt file inside a BM file and proceed to burn?

If not, then what/how does one proceed?

JNABK
02-05-2008, 04:57 AM
Yes you will need a .pbt to run any app with CC's BM, but the file you linked is meant for burning to disc and run that way. So if you want the elf, grab the ELF version from the HDD page you got that from, its just under that one on the list and is already in ELF form and packed to make the files size smaller for flash or MC installs.

The one on the disc isnt packed and is too large for flash, meant to help increase the disc size for CD.

You can rename it HDOADER.ELF if your going to use the PBT from the megapack, or any name if your writing your own PBT, just be sure the names are identical.

overview
02-05-2008, 09:40 AM
Thanks.
I may have complicated it. Hopefully this response is merely a confirmation.

I intend to use a cd. The file HDLoader 8B -CD- BIN/CUE/ISO has no .pbt.
So I thought I could use the .pbt from the hdloader subdirectory of cc_software_2x_mega_pack_rls3 file but ensuring filename match.
Thus the cd would have:
DUMMY3.DAT
SYSTEM
HDL8B_CD.ELF
and
hdloader.pbt

Is a folder required?

TIA

thats kinda my fault, i meant to make a tutorial long ago, but musta decided not to since all you need to know to get the image in HDL is in the Patch guide.

If its a template your in need of, i'm attaching one, but you will need a Paint app able to load .psd format images. I only have one for a big game list, but you should be able to still make a nice skin for a small list with it by guessing the placements from the toolbar location as its the same in both.

is it work on a usb hardisk
No. HDLoader does not work with any USB drives.

or can i use another for usb disk and whats the name
There are three different programs which can run games from USB:

1: USBAdvance == commercial, but with a homebrew elf available
2: USBExtreme == commercial, in fact identical to USBAdvance internally
3: Open PS2 Loader (aka: OPL) == Homebrew Freeware, still in development

The first two are only of historical interest now, since they are obsoleted by the far superior OPL, which is a completely new fully homebrew development including all the advantages of the older USB game loaders plus many new advantages and improved compatibility. The installation tools for the older game loaders are still of interest though, as the USB core of OPL needs games to be installed in the same form as the older loaders.

With OPL you also have the option of running games stored on a PC, using LAN connection to transfer the game data during gameplay. So no special media (no disc, no HDD, no USB) will be needed for the PS2 in order to play any games you have installed to your PC fileshare. All the PS2 needs is an MC and the LAN connection, plus some homebrew boot method so it can start OPL.

NB: The earliest forms of OPL were differently named. As the program was then intended for USB only it was then called "USBLoader" and some forms of it even acted as just a program loader for USBAdvance. But in the newer versions this has changed completely, and there is no longer any relationship with USBAdvance or any other such program.

--------

Wel this was edited some time later after i posted..i found that games have to be in usbloader format so that network can access the game...
That limitation is true for OPL v0.7 and earlier versions, but has been changed in later beta revisions, which are able to accept normal ISO files as well as the old USBA format for the network games list.

well my question wud be.. i havea clone matrix chip.. it used to detect the 0.6 version earlier ...but 0.7 version opl gets hung on black screen before even it wud show up the first screen.
That is very strange, as one of the improvements of v0.7 was to remove the modchip 'allergy' that made it impossible to use most earlier versions with most modchips (including the DMS4pro chip in one of my PS2s). And I know that others with Matrix clones can use OPL v0.7 too, though I suppose some clones may differ from others... :(

Also i see some ppl using cover art for each game.
This is done by having a folder named "ART" in the same place as your USBA-installed games, so for network games that "ART" folder should be in the root of the PS2SMB fileshare. Inside that folder you can then store JPG or PNG format picture files with names constructed by combining a game ID prefix with a fixed suffix depending on the purpose of the picture.

So for the game "Final Fantasy X: International" == SLPS_250.88 I have the following:

SLPS_250.88_BG.jpg == Full background picture for OPL GUI
SLPS_250.88_COV.jpg == Cover picture displayed for selected game beside the listing
SLPS_250.88_ICO.jpg == Icon picture displayed for each game in the listing (and beside it)

And so on for the other games in my collection.
(Though I don't have art files for all of them. Using such is fully optional.)

The usage I describe here is how it is intended to work in newer versions, but most of this eye-candy stuff is simply not implemented yet in v0.7, and what little is implemented (some theme stuff) works differently from how it works in the current betas (and thus in future releases).

So until you have a newer version than v0.7 there is not much point in preparing such art files, except as preparation for some future release.

Best regards: dlanor

Jesse

Interesting, this cover stuff... I assume the newer betas aren't public betas?
Can't really wait for it, it'll surely make OPL a lot nicer to look at!

Interesting, this cover stuff... I assume the newer betas aren't public betas?
The source code is public but public distribution of binaries is not allowed.
This works as a screening process for would-be beta testers.
Anyone who can compile the binaries from source code is accepted.
(And there are some helpful developer starter kits available on the home site, psx-scene.com)

Can't really wait for it, it'll surely make OPL a lot nicer to look at!
It does, though the 'niceness' is not my own major concern.

If I plan to spend a 10 hour session deep in some RPG, it hardly matters how 'nice' the GUI looks for the thirty seconds or so (at the most) that I will spend in it that day.

But the functionality, ease of finding the games in multiple pages (I have over 200 games installed in my fileshare), and the ease of manipulating their per-game settings, those are things of greater importance. As is the significantly raised level of compatibility in current betas compared to the old v0.7. That public version is around 200 revisions older than current betas (a little more for the VMC branch).

And for many the ability to use VMC with nearly all games is another strong factor for preferring the beta versions of the VMC branch of the OPL project.

Best regards: dlanor

Jesse
08-23-2010, 06:16 PM
Let's just say that for me the functionality of OPL with the games I play has no issues at all ;)
But of course the VMC is certainly something to look out for as well.

As for the compiling thing, I'll look into it. I'm not new to PC development, but PS2 development is another thing. Don't really get it why knowledge of PS2 development is required to be a tester though...

JNABK
08-23-2010, 07:50 PM
Don't really get it why knowledge of PS2 development is required to be a tester though...

Its for the simple reason to make people who want to test OPL become 'involved' as a tester and not just someone who wants the "latest version". By making people learn to compile binaries, it gives them more knowledge of the current progress and they can understand the changes taking place and make accurate reports. Those revisions are just that, beta revisions meant for the developers and beta testers only.

We dont want to make public releases of pre-compiled binaries because it would lead to confusion on whats what and every noobie that grabs a pre-compiled binary would be swamping the forums with questions 100x more than they do now.

We want testers, (not random users who only care about the games in their collections), who will test each new revision and report how the changes affected things for them. Its in these reports developers can make decisions on what to improve and then make a new revision. This is how to perfect the app productively and not get aggravated by a lot of nonsense questions and false reports from people who dont know whats going on in development.

Jesse
08-24-2010, 11:43 AM
Very understandable. Since I'm into development of PC applications (and some smartphone stuff too) I do understand the importance of proper testing and reporting. I guess I'll just wait for the final version then, don't have the time right now to start learning all about PS2 Development and set up a Linux computer (which I understood was needed).

@ Dlanor I tried finding what you mentioned but so far without luck. Wish psx-scene had a search... or am I just blind?
